Tangible Waves VMIX-10 is a new 8-channel mixer with internal power hub for the Korg Volcas and other portable synthesizers & drum machines

Portable synthesizers and drum machines are more popular than ever. They don’t take up much space, are affordable, and offer a solid set of features. Starting with the Korg Volcas, which have cult status in the synth community, the Boutique series from Roland, the Modal CraftSynth 2 and SKULPTsynth SE, two great-sounding digital synth, and since a few days also Behringer with its new mini synth series.

Korg has developed a mixer for the Volcas, but it was technically a failure. With the Vixen, KVGear published via Kickstarter a mixer that has the feature set what musicians expected from the Japanese developers. The Vixen is currently no longer available for purchase. Hopefully it will come back on sale but there is an alternative from Germany.

Tangible Waves VMIX-10

Tangible Waves, the developer of the super affordable AE Modular Synthesizer has introduced the VMIX-10. A compact 8-channel mixer for your Volcas and other portable instruments. According to Robbie Langer (the developer), the case size is identical with the Volcas series, so it fits perfectly in the Volca stands. And it’s clear where Robbie got his inspiration, from the KVGear Vixen.

VMIX-10 offers 6 mono input channels and 2 stereo input channels, each with minijack sockets. Each channel gives you controls for level, pan as well as a click-free mute button. Then, it offers two FX send-return sections (send mono, return stereo) allowing to connect effect processors to the mixer. With the FX1 and FX2 controls in each mono channel, you can precisely set the amount of the effect. These are missing in the stereo channels.

The complete mix arrives in the main section where you have a VU meter and a level control. This is also the end of the signal chain and the audio leave the mixer via the main output or the headphone socket with an additional level control. The VMIX-10 is powered with a classic 9V DC cable.

Clever, there is also a power hub in the mixer with which you can supply up to 4 Volcas or devices with power at the same time.

A completely new product for Tangible Waves, who are actually known from the AE Modular System. But don’t worry, there will be many new modules in the future. A proof here: the mixer is also available in a modular version.

Compact Mixer AE Modular Rack Version

The compact mixer offers the same functionality (6 mono, 2 stereos, 2 FX bus…) for the AE Modular world.

A nice portable mixer for small synthesizers and drum machines. It’s a pity that there are no 6.3mm jack sockets like on the KVGear Vixen. And everyone who says: it looks like the KVGear mixer, yes, that’s true. And no, it’s not a clone/replica.

Tangible Waves VMIX-10 will cost 172,55€ including EU 19% VAT and 145€ ex VAT. Shipping will start approx. mid of march 2022. The modular version will cost 118€ ex. VAT and will be available in 2-3 weeks.
