Beatassist.eu expands the Synth Anatomy free Synthesizer plugin list with the Kuma 508, a semi-modular FM Synthesizer for PC & Mac with a big feature at no charge.
It’s time again for a free Synthesizer plugin. Beatassist.eu is giving way Kuma 508, a semi-modular FM Synthesizer with a lot of features. However, the plugin has a downer. It was developed in SynthEdit, the best-known Synthesizer construction kit with which you can design plugins without coding experience.
Often these don’t have the nicest UIs and don’t sound very high-quality like commercial ones. Unfortunately, it’s the case for Kuma 508. The looks like Anno 2000 and the sound is rather basic. But, you shouldn’t look a gift horse in the month. The plugin is absolutely free and there is no catch. I’m pretty sure many will work with.

Kuma 508 is a semi-modular FM Synthesizer with five oscillator sections that you can interconnect with one another using five different FM algorithms. It also has three single oscillator modes that relies on classic virtual analog syntheses. Each oscillator contains more than 22 waveforms that give you plenty of timbre options. Then it has four filters (state variable, Korg, Moog, bandpass) that can you can mix and interconnect using patch cables. These can operate in series and parallel. Further, you have two envelope generators (filter & amp) but no LFO.
At the end of the signal chain, it hosts a distortion unit and a reverb processor. A well-equipped free Synthesizer plugin in my opinion. In terms of sound, it, unfortunately, cannot keep up with the better freeware or commercial ones. Nonetheless, it’s a free download so and good to see that the free synth plugin is growing and growing.
Beatassist.eu Kuma 508 is available now as a free download and runs as a VST, VST3, and AU 64-bit only plugin on windows and macOS.
