6. Qu-Bit Electronik Nebulae

The next granular instrument is again available only in the module world. Nebuale is a granular sampler and DSP platfrom that can do more than just granularisation. It’s based on a phase vocoder audio engine that provides flexible audio, which can be stretched, granularized and mangled. All parameters that have something to with the sound manipulation have their own knob on the interface: independent control over pitch & speed, granular controls (overlap, window, density…)

Nebulae can use live audio input, a recorded buffer (up to 5 minutes of stereo audio at 48kHz), or audio files as the source material for its powerful audio manipulations. It’s also possible to load up to 75 MB of stereo audio through the USB port. What’s exciting, Nebuale is not only a granular sampler but also a powerful open-source DSP platform for new codes written in Pure Data, Csound, SuperCollider and even bare-bones C programs. Simply upload a new code and you can use the module as a reverb, spectral delay, looper, and more.

Nebuale has long been one of the strongest granular samplers on the Eurorack market and with the new features in the V2 it’s even more interesting. If you need a strong granular tool for your rack that may cost a bit more ($ 429) you should look at Nebulae.

    • Yes! A pacarana or paca are still the most powerful granular synthesizers on this planet. And the symbolic sound implementation of granular synthesis sounds very good because of the technical background they have and how the algorithms are implemented on a real DSP plattform.
