Chris Carlson announced today via Twitter a one day sale on his amazing Borderlands Granular app for iPad. Only today, you can buy it for $3.99 instead of $9.99. Borderlands Granular is a massive granular Synthesizer instrument for iPad that allows you to create with own samples, complex timbres and textures. I used this app since years in my studio and also for live performance.

If I must say my favourite iOS app than it’s Borderlands Granular from Chris Carlson. Since I’m a big fan of granular synthesis, I felt in love with this app. It allows me to build huge granular sound clouds with my own samples in an uncomplicated way. I import my samples via Audioshare and the journey starts. This app offers me an endless playground. If you have an iPad, I recommend you to buy this amazing app. I’m pretty sure we will see also soon a new version 3 with new features. It’s a must have app that works fine in the studio but also for live.

Borderlands Granular uses a technique called granular synthesis, which involves the superposition of tiny fragments of sound, or “grains,” to create complex, evolving timbres and textures. The app is designed to be easy to use, emphasizing gestural interaction over knobs and sliders. Create, drag, and throw pulsing clouds of grains over a landscape of audio files, or use the built-in accelerometer to sculpt sound with gravity. Simply double tap to begin!

Borderlands comes ready to play with default sample content included, but you can also load and export your own sounds via Audiobus, Audioshare, and real time input from the mic or external audio interfaces. Re-sample recordings made within the app on-the-fly for layers-upon-layers of granulation. You can also improvise alongside the app – touches and parameters may be recorded, looped, stored, and duplicated. Entire configurations of clouds, sounds, and automation can be saved into presets, or “scenes,” that may be recalled at a later time, allowing Borderlands to seamlessly transition between the studio and the stage.
