Gum Cuisine Kick is a new kick drum Synthesizer plugin (macOS/Windows) with advanced features, including FM, resonator, and more.
A good, punchy kick is an important element of an electronic track. Music producers today can choose from tens of thousands of different kick samples in factory libraries or from third-party sound designers. Alternatively, you can take the all-synthesis route and build your own kicks from scratch.
Gum Cuisine, a newcomer plugin developer from Vienna, just published a new kick drum synth plugin allowing you to craft kicks down to the last detail.
Gum Cuisine Kick
The plugin is simply called “Kick” and is a new kick drum Synthesizer with a fully-synthesized core. The GUI is very eye-catching, has relatively large controls, and comes with 6 color schemes. I would like something fine because they look a bit too massive, but that’s just my taste.
Kick consists of different sound-shaping sections. It starts with a multi-timbre tone section with a full ADSR envelope and pitch control. The filtered noise section with different flavors, an independent decay envelope, and a built-in filter give your kicks additional character.
It gets more intriguing and sonically rich in the second area of the plugin. A multi-flavored click section creates punchy transients while the body part adds more punch and rumble to your kicks.
There is also a resonance module consisting of a resonator for a special, more organic character. Plus, you can go further and apply a drive (soft overdrive to heavy distortion) and FM for additional harmonic overtones to your kicks.
Alongside the drive and FM, you have a random control giving natural variation each time you trigger a sound. Kick ships with over 100 ready-to-use presets. These give you a good overview of the sounds that the drum synth can produce. The real fun, however, begins when you explore the engine yourself.
A nice kick drum plugin with a lot of flexibility. Visually more on the crazy side, but the demos sound very promising. There is a free demo version of it with the exact features as the full version, except you don’t have access to all controls and all presets. No silence or demo period, nice!
Gum Cuisine Kick is available now for an introductory price of $25 USD instead of $49 USD. It runs as a VST3 and AU plugin on macOS (Intel + M1) and Windows.
