The new Moog Knob Kit allows you to pimp your semi-modular synthesizers with custom-designed Moog-style knobs.
Moog has a variety of semi-modular analog synthesizers, each with a different focus. The new Mavis is a portable synth with which you can take the first steps in semi-modular synthesis. DFAM, on the other hand, is suitable as a fat-sounding drum synth. All Moog Eurorack synths have one thing in common: they are equipped with 6mm knurled pots which to be honest are not particularly good.
They feel rather cheap and haven’t the same value as large knobs. But you can pimp them up. Moog presented the Knob Kit today, which can give these synths significantly more grip.
The new Moog Knob Kit is a new set of 25 custom-designed Moog-style knobs that perfectly fit 6mm diameter knurled pots commonly found on synthesizers. They have an internal interface to lock the knob in place when assembled and you don’t need a set of screws for it.
I like these a lot as they seem to have a better grip when you touch them. This is completely missing on the small 6mm knurled knobs.
It’s nice that the knobs are not exclusively designed for Moog synthesizers. You can also upgrade any other Synthesizer or Eurorack module with it. Moog says:
Easy to install by hand and designed to preserve each instrument’s front panel print, these knobs make for a great addition to any Mavis, DFAM, Subharmonicon, Werkstatt-01, and most other Eurorack modules.
I would very much welcome Moog to put these knobs on their future synthesizers.
Moog has released three new videos in which you can also see the new knobs installed.
Moog Knob Kit is available now for $35 USD/44€.
