The new Bastl Instruments Softpop SP2 firmware update expands the experimental synth with a new rich digital wave-shaping oscillator and more.
There are classic synthesizers with classic architecture (Moog Grandmother, IK Uno Synth Pro…) but there are also those who offer radically different concepts. So-called experimental synthesizers. One of the newest is the Bastl Instruments Softpop SP2, initially introduced in January 2022, is a wild synth that combines analog and digital technologies.
At Superbooth 22, Bastl gave a preview of a mighty secret digital oscillator. The good news: the new firmware is out now and every SP2 user can now explore it. Plus benefit from many other new features.
Bastl Instruments Softpop SP2 Digital Oscillator And More
The Softpop SP2 is an analog synthesizer. However, there are some digital elements that are bigger than initially thought. Bastl Instruments has managed to add a digital oscillator that can be used as an alternative to the analog one. This is also sent through the rest of the analog architecture of the Softpop SP2.
The new oscillator includes 8 digital waveforms with detuning and wave shaping options. With this, Bastl massively expands the sound spectrum of his small analog experimental synthesizer in new directions.
Besides the new digital oscillator goodness, Bastl Instruments also updated the Softop SP2 with more clever features. The new firmware brings envelope gate probability, a fine-tune fader mode, pitch tracking to the CV output, and more. Further, the MIDI implementation also got a major update. MIDI notes now trigger the envelope, transposition, and MIDI clock. Plus, you have tons of MIDI CC control possibilities.
A nice update with which Bastl has significantly expanded the versatility of the Softpop SP2 with more character and possible timbres.
The new firmware for the Bastl Instruments Softpop SP2 is free of charge for existing customers. Softpop SP2 is available now for $549 USD/608,40€.
