Forgotten Keys ROLA-8000 is a new virtual drum instrument for NI Kontakt based on Roland CompuRhythm CR-8000 drum machine samples.
The Roland story is long and big. Besides numerous legendary Synthesizer releases (Jupiter-8, SH-101, TB-303…), the Japanese company has published many drum machines with cult status today. The TR-808, 909, 707, or even the CR-78 are certainly among the most popular.
But some were more niche and limited in terms of features. For example, the CompuRhythm CR-8000 is a drum machine with 13 analog drums with built-in patterns and storage. If you don’t want to pay the high second prices and you are a Kontakt user, the Drum Machine is now available as an affordable library.
Forgotten Keys ROLA-8000
ROLA-8000 is a new virtual drum instrument for Kontakt that is based on samples from the Roland CompuRhythm CR-8000. The core consists of 325 samples, including multi-dynamic and round-robin variations of the original sounds.
You can program the sounds like in the original hardware unit with colored buttons. If that is too time-consuming for you, there are alternatively ready-made rhythms onboard. You can find new ones and all the rhythms and intro/fill-ins from the Roland hardware.
The Kontakt instrument also includes various enhancements to the original. You can find a full mixer where you can adjust the gain and more of every drum instrument. There is also a “free fills” functionality that plays randomized fill-ins based on snippets of existing fill-ins. Lastly, you can find a handy MIDI file recorder.
Unfortunately, there is no sound demo of the new Forgotten Keys library, but these vintage drum machine sounds await you.
Forgotten Keys ROLA-8000 is available now for an introductory price of £14,40 (reg. £19,20) exclusively on Loot Audio. It requires the full version of Kontakt 5.8.1+ and is not compatible with Kontakt Player.
