AudioThing Fog Convolver 2: is a further development of its convolution reverb/processor with a new impulse generator, modulation, effects, and more.

In July 2022, AudioThing released an impressive update for its unique Fog Convolver convolution processor. What is great about this is that the processor is not just designed to create reverbs based on impulse responses. It’s also capable of creating interesting results.

New users of Fog Convolver 2 or who paid the super fair upgrade price of 5€ for the update in 2022 can be happy. Version 2.2 is out now. Another impressive update.

The new version 2.2 is a free update for existing users of the second generation. A big highlight is a new space simulator section developed in collaboration with Lese Audio Technologies.

It allows you to create impulse responses of virtual rooms. It goes deep. You can change the dimensions, manually place the source and listener, and experiment with combinations of materials. All this on each of your six walls to simulate architectural acoustics. That sounds like a big new feature.

Fog Convolver 2.2 also includes a new DIY bank and more impulse responses for the unusual bank. Besides this, it comes with support for macOS 14 Sonoma and AAX Silicon. They also fixed bugs and improved the graphic memory usage.

The new update is available now as a free update for existing customers. Fog Convolver 2.2 is available now for an intro price of 39€ instead of 69€. It runs on macOS, Linux, and Windows.

Reverb is one of the most popular effects in music production. It can be generated in various ways. Besides algorithms, you can work with convolution techniques that use impulse responses to create all kinds of reverbs.

A popular convolution processor plugin is AudioThing’s Fog Convolver. This has now got a major update 2.0 with many new features.

Fog Convolver 2 is a completely rewritten and redesigned version of the popular convolution processor from AudioThing. The new version is a true stereo convolution reverb/processor plugin with new features like modulation, effects, and more.

Thanks to the stereo engine, you can either load via drag and drop or via the browser, either two separate or one true stereo impulse response. They have separate or linked controls. Additionally, you can load quad impulse responses as well. It supports WAV and AIFF audio files.

FC2 features five different routing modes to arrange the impulses: single, serial, parallel, parallel mix, and true stereo. The latter allows you to achieve a better stereo image, or you can also go wild by using two unrelated IRs. This allows you to generate very experimental stereo reverbs.

Impulse Generator

A highlight of the new Fog Convolver 2 is the built-in impulse generator that allows you to create your own artificial spaces. A handy alternative if you don’t want to use the Impulse responses or samples. Then, it comes with a new modulation engine consisting of two LFOs per impulse. Each LFO has 10 different waveforms and 18 possible destinations.

Further, each impulse includes a dedicated multi-mode filter (with pre-, IR, or post modes), and a 5-band graphic EQ. If that’s not enough, you can shape the sound using a new multi-effects section including chorus, phaser, compressor, and waveshaper.

AudioThing ships the plugin with 8 factory banks with more than 660 versatile impulse responses made from a wide range of sources including test equipment. They are available in a preset browser with also have a built-in randomizer.

AudioThing plugins have massively increased in quality over the last few years. More features, more rounded concepts, etc. And the Fog Convolver 2 version fits perfectly into this evolution.

AudioThing Fog Convolver 2.0 is available now for an introductory price of 39€ instead of 69€. It runs as a 64-bit only VST2, VST3, AU, AAX, and CLAP plugin on macOS and Windows. Existing Fog Convolver 1 users can upgrade for 5€ in their user account.
