Cherry Audio Lowdown is a new Synthesizer plugin (win/mac) that recreates the fat, juicy sound of the Moog Taurus bass synth from 1975.

May 23 is International Synthesizer Day because synthesizer pioneer Bob Moog was born on that day in 1934. This day is celebrated not only by Synthesizer players worldwide but also by the developers of Cherry Audio. More precisely, they celebrate it with a new Synthesizer plugin.

After the release of its Minimoog emulation Minimode, the next is an authentic soft reproduction of the Moog Taurus Bass Synthesizer.

Cherry Audio Lowdown

Lowdown is a new Bass Synthesizer plugin that recreates the fat, round sound of the iconic Moog Taurus bass pedal Synthesizer. A prog-rock and new wave legend from the 70s and 80s. The Cherry Audio developers have modeled here every aspect down to the last detail of the original unit including an authentic interface. This isnother DSP collaboration with Mark Barton:

In order to create Cherry Audio’s Lowdown, award-winning synth designer and DSP legend Mark Barton carefully analyzed the original’s synthesis circuits and precisely recreated them for a massive virtual bass experience like no other. We’re simply thrilled with the outcome of this fun and easy-to-use earth-moving bass experience and we hope you love it as much as we do!

The plugin offers two “massive” oscillators, each with saw and square waveforms. Via a new panel, you get access to oscillator functions like tune, beat, glide, octave, octave, and oscillator B frequency. Then, it comes with a classic 24dB/octave lowpass filter with controls for Cutoff, Emphasis, and Contour. The filter also hosts controls for an AD envelope.

The loudness also has an envelope with slider controls for the attack, decay, and sustain level. There are also additional one-button controls to activate glide, decay, and octave. Plus, you get master “foot” sliders for the loudness and filter.

Presets & MIDI

Like the original, it comes with one-button prests including variable, bull, tuba, and bass. But don’t worry, there are more presets. In an easy-to-use preset browser, you can check out over 40 presets and save your sounds. Of course, “almost “unlimited, a big benefit compared to the original hardware.

Further, you get full MIDI control, full DAW automation for all controls and you can select from 14 under-the-pedals floor surfaces. So you can customize your Lowdown as you want. And maybe it sounds more authentic with your configuration hehe.

Anyone looking for fat analog-style sounds like basses has come to the right place. A plugin that fits perfectly into the rock world.

Cherry Audio Lowdown is available now for an introductory price of $25 USD ($39,99 USD reg.) and runs as a VST, VST3, AU, AAX plugin, and standalone on macOS (Intel + M1) & Windows.
