Soundwide: the new joint venture of iZotope, NI, Plugin Alliance, and Brainworx with the mission to shape the sound of the future. They celebrate it with free plugins for a limited time.
In 2021, iZotope and Native Instruments announced that they were strengthening their relationship and entering into an alliance. A logical step both companies belong partly to the same investor company.
Today, the next step in their strong partnership has been announced. With Soundwide, they have founded a new music tech “uber” company that is the joint venture of iZotope and Native Instruments. But also of Plugin Alliance and Brainworx. So a part of the big players from the plugin industry is now sharing the same boat.
Soundwide
Soundwide’s goal is to make music creation a more joyful and inspiring experience for creators everywhere by helping them to find, and stay in, their creative flow. All four companies will continue to live on as product brands under Soundwide. It is intended to serve as a creative hub in which companies work on new technologies and share their knowledge with each other.
Artist Board
Besides the creation of the newly named parent company Soundwide, they also announce the appointment of an artist board. It hosts Alica Keys, producer Ann Mincieli, rapper EL-P of Run the Jewels, musician/producer Jacob Collier, composer Ludwig Göransson and engineer Noah “40” Shebib, production duo Take A Daytrip, singer-songwriter Tayla Parx, and producer and engineer Young Guru. So it’s not a supergroup of companies but also of artists and creators.
The mission of the newly founded Arist Board is to advise Soundwide with the goal to empower the community, listen to what creators want and need, and work to improve the overall health of the music industry. They want to establish a creator-community-to-company pipeline for feedback on product developments.
Alongside these new additions, Soundwide also welcomes the newly formed Sound Stacks, born from the minds of Cesare Ferrari and Julian Storer, the creator of the industry-standard open-source audio application framework JUCE. Sound Stacks will drive the development of new audio platform technologies aimed at improving productivity and performance for audio developers across the industry.

My Impression
Big companies coming together to have more power is nothing new. I hope this partnership brings the plugin market forward and shows new ideas that we don’t know yet. For me, however, this move also clearly shows that the market has reached a point where it is difficult to reach a huge number of new customers. There are still some coming but not the big amount anymore.
And in order to remain financially strong, this is often one of the steps you have to take. Join forces to become bigger and stronger. I just hope we don’t see a big subscription service any time soon. Please do not.
