Macro brings the unique, experimental Mutable Instruments Plaits oscillator module into a new free Rack Extension Synthesizer for Reason.

Mutable Instruments Plaits is one of the most ingenious oscillators of recent years. With its 16 algorithms it is one of the most versatile sound generators out there. Plaits is open-source and many developers have benefited from this option to include the code in other products. From simple module replicas to completely new ones.

Now Reason users can also benefit from the code. Presteign Sound Labs have incorporated the well-known code into a new, free rack extension Synthesizer with all the same experimental, wild spirit from MI.

Macro packs the unique, experimental sound character of the Mutable Instruments Plaits oscillator module into a new free Rack Extension Synthesizer for Reason. It offers the same 16 unique sound engines including virtual analog, 2-operator FM, 24-harmonic additive synthesis, wavetable, and more.

Just like the original, Macro doesn’t have filter, envelopes, etc. It’s all inside the lowpass gate where the same release-stage or ASR envelope controls both.

The Rack Extension follows the same principle as the Eurorack module. If you need more filters, envelopes, LFOs, you can extend it with the built-in Reason toolbox or with third-party rack extensions. There are umpteen LFOs, envelopes and other modulators available. On the backside, you can find tons of patching options. Including CV/gate inputs, CV/gate outputs, generation mods (A/B/B), envelope, and more.

Thus, Macro can be used as a standalone Synthesizer or as an oscillator for your modular synth creation with the same Eurorack flexibility in Reason.

The implementation has been very successful. It’s a beautiful rack extension with a very simple, elegant design language. Well done.

Macro by Presteign Sound Labs is available now as a free download. It runs as a rack extension in Reason on macOS and Windows.
