At Superbooth 21, UDO Audio pulls its award-winning SUPER 6 binaural hybrid synth engine in a new portable, desktop version, here is a first look

The Super 6 binaural hybrid synthesizer celebrated its premiere at Superbooth 2019. It’s been more than two years now and George Hearn and his team at UDO Audio have put a lot of time into updates and manufacturing.

At the last Superbooth 21, the young British company expanded its portfolio with another hardware Synthesizer. A SUPER synthesizer rarely comes alone. With the SUPER 6 desktop, the developers are showing a compact version in a slim white design.

The SUPER 6 desktop has everything on board of its brother, in a compact, portable, all-metal white desktop chassis. More precisely, you get the same analog hybrid FPGA-based 12-voice Synthesizer engine with rich digital oscillators and an analog SSI 4-pole resonant low-pass filter. Like the keyboard, it has a lot of versatile modulation, an arpeggiator, and a 24-bit digital effects section

The desktop comes with additional features such as drift control, independent control of the analog highpass filter, pan spread control, advanced envelopes, and more. The key feature of the compact version is the ability to take the device with you wherever you go. To make this possible, a new interface design was implemented, adapted to the desktop format.

Plus, you get ergonomic features such as VESA mount compliance, optional rack ears (7U), and a robust flip-up feed. This offers a versatile integration in your studio. And for those who want more Super 6 voices, the desktop could also be exciting. It offers a poly chain option making the desktop version in a voice expander for the SUPER 6 keyboard. UDO Audio also promises MPE operability in a future update.

First Look

I had the opportunity to check out the desktop version on Superbooth 21. The format of the new Super 6 desktop is nice and really like that the knobs and sliders are closer together. This makes tweaking sound very immediate and easy. Even without the keyboard, the desktop unit has a Super vibe. And thanks to the poly aftertouch support, the S6 desktop could be the best partner for Hydrasynth or any other PA keyboard.

UDO Audio SUPER 6 Desktop will be available for £1949 (incl. tax) and will start shipping in autum.
