Full Bucket Music FB-7999 is a free plugin that emulates the Korg DW-6000/8000 hybrid synthesizers plugins from the 80s with SysEx import/export support.

Full Bucket’s FB-7999 was released two years ago. I thought it was just yesterday. How the time flies. But Björn is not one of those developers who publishes something and stops updating it. His plugins are always up to date.

Today, he released an update that makes friends of the original Korg DW Synthesizer happy. The new FB-7999 update 1.1.3 adds DW-8000 tape dump import functionality. This allowed users to export patches from the synth. Now, you can load them into the emulation.

There are many free Synthesizer plugins for Windows and macOS. Some of them stand out from the crowd. Above all, these are the plugins from the German developer Full Bucket Music.

Today Björn is back with a new free plugin that emulates another Korg synth from the past. More precisely, it models the famous Korg DW-6000/8000 hybrid synths from the 1980s that offered raw digital oscillators paired with analog filtering and versatile modulators.

FB-7999 is an emulation of the best-known Korg DW-6000/8000 synthesizers from the 1980s. Full Bucket’s emulation features two oscillators, a filter (VCF), two envelopes as well as a modulator. The oscillator features 32 different waveforms (16 + 16 different waveforms) and offers poly/unison modes.

Like on the original units, both envelopes are (VCF/VCA) are ADBSSR types with 6 parameters: attack, decay, breakpoint, slope, sustain, and release. Also, it has an LFO and a bender, each with two destinations: oscillator and filter. At the end of the signal chain, you have a pseudo-stereo delay processor with different parameters. Plus, you can control parameters with aftertouch, the mod wheel, breath control, and tweaks.

FB-7999 has up to 64-voice polyphony (8-voice original), supports MTS-ESP by ODDSound for dynamic micro-tuning and MIDI learn. Pretty cool, the developer implemented SysEx data support which you can import and export patches from the original Korg DW synths.

Full Bucket Music FB-7999 is available now as a free download for macOS and Windows as a VST and AU plugin. Don’t forget to support the developer with a donation if you enjoy the plugin.

  1. Looks nice, with a Big Sky you would go to heaven, I’d love a physical module of it to go with a recreation of a Tg33

  2. Holy cats, this is fantastic! I had a DW-8000 as a teen in the 80s (I had a rock-loving grandmother, she’s the best) and am kicking myself for getting rid of this years ago.
