With the new Black VCF series, Erica Synths just published new classic, intercommunicating 24dB filters for friends of analog sound design
Many musicians who start with modular synthesis buy a number of modules to start with. A filter is usually in the cart. There are tons of different filters to choose from, each with its own character. Often the decision is made for filters that have several types onboard because here you get the most for the money.
Erica Synths from Latvia today released a new Black VCF module series that only offer one type. These are filters for analog sound design purists, according to the developers.
Erica Synths Black VCF Series
Black Low Pass VCF is highly stable, 24db/oct resonant lowpass VCF with voltage control over the cutoff and resonance. It also includes a post-filter overdrive circuit with an adjustable drive amount perfect to crunch up your timbres. The Black High Pass VCF offers everything that the lowpass version has but in a highpass configuration including a post-filter overdrive circuit.
Both modules have a connector on the back with which you can connect it to the third module from this new series, the Black Filter Coupler. It’s the command center to the Black High Pass VCF and the Black Low Pass VCF. Once connected, it adds bandpass and band-reject filter functionality to the module, both with manually adjustable and CV-controllable center frequency and bandwidth. Nice, both modules still can operate on their own.
Regardless of whether manually or with CV, the modules have sufficient functionality for both operations. Be careful, the Black Filter Coupler is designed to work exclusively with both modules.
Erica Synths Black Lowpass VCF is available now for 150€, Black Highpass for 150€, and Black Filter Coupler for 90€. All prices without taxes and shipping.
