The modules Braids and Clouds have long been the best seller on the Eurorack market. They are especially appreciated by musicians because they are very versatile and are expandable with third party firmware upgrade that includes very cool new features. After the sad news from Oliver (Mutable Instruments) that he will no longer produce these modules, the developer of the VCV rack published a software version with the identical source code of these modules.

Today, Timo Rozendal released MutatedTexturizer and Mutated Macro oscillators, two new free max for live devices based onthe Braids and Clouds code

MutatedTexturizer

The MutatedTexturizer and the MutatedTexturizerAlt are free max for live plugins based on the firmware for the eurorack module Clouds by Mutable Instruments. MutatedTexturizer is based on the stock firmware by Olivier Gillet, MutatedTexturizerAlt is based on the Parasites software which includes additions by Matthias Puech (Olivier and Matthias gave their permission to share this with you, but they are not involved in the port itself)

These plugins can create all kinds of delay based effects, sometimes using granular synthesis methods, other times using transformed Fourier methods or even tuned delay lines. It is worth to note that they can really come to live with proper modulation. I can recommend checking the manual for the stock and parasites firmware to learn more about what the different parameters do.

NoteIn
The MutatedTexturizerAlt fx plugin can receive midi data from a miditrack via the NoteIn device. This makes it for example possible to play the resonator as a synthesizer or to pitch grains in a melodic way.

About samplerates:
You can choose what the internal samplerate of the effect is, this is then automatically resampled from and to your current system samplerate.
(It will introduce a little latency if conversion is needed). The internal samplerate setting will change the timbre and ranges of the parameters (this was too complex to avoid and I kind of like the new diversity). The original code is designed to run on a samplerate of 32kHz.

Headroom
Internally the software uses 16 bit fixed point accuracy (or even a compressed 8bit accuracy in the loft mode). For hot signals it can be useful to increase the headroom to prevent distortion (this attenuates the signal before the effect and amplifies it afterwards). This parameter can also be used for its lofi effect.

A bunch of presets are included to give you a quick start. This device has been made for EboStudio. In particular for the sounddesign of the theatre piece Steppenwolf. This device gives you a good taste of what you can expect of the Eurorack module, but keep in mind that it will become a different beast in a patchable hardware context.

Mutated Macro Oscillator

The Mutated Macro Oscillator is a free max for live instrument which is based on the code behind the Mutable Instruments’ module Braids. This code has been ported to a max external (mac only) and it has been made polyphonic (8 voices) and a filter has been added (designed by Surreal Machines) plus 2 envelopes as modulation sources.

I suggest to place all the files together in a subdirectory of your user library (no need to split them up). It is both basic and diverse in what it can do. Ten presets are included to give you a quick start. This device has been made for EboStudio. In particular for the sounddesign of the theatre piece Steppenwolf. This device gives you a good taste of what you can expect of the Eurorack module, but keep in mind that it will become a different beast in a patchable hardware context.

All devices requires Mac OS 10.9 or higher, Ableton Live 9 and Max for Live (Max 7.2 or higher)
