For over two weeks, Blade Runner 2049 has been running in theaters. Many people like the sequel of the film with the new soundtrack others are somewhat disappointed. From my point of view it was extremely difficult to beat the original characterful and iconic Vangelis soundtrack. So I personally find the new soundtrack very successful although it doesn’t approach the original charm. The original remains the original.

SoundWorks Collection recently released an exciting video where you get a deep insight into the sound design of the movie. First of all, it’s interesting to see how detailed the sound designers were to record individual sounds. (field recordings…) Then also you get an insight into the work of Hans Zimmer and Benjamin Wallfisch. Here you can see the legendary Yamaha CS-80 (already used for Bade Runner 1) but also the U-he Zebra 2 Synthesizer which Hans Zimmer programmed so that it emulates the sound of the CS-80. Highly recommend to check out this new documentary about the sound design of Blade Runner 2049.
