Ableton announced today that they will discontinue Live 9 in the 32 bit version from late 2017. The reason because they will make this step is due of the persistent out of memory crashes. This problems happens often when you use larger multi-samples or memory-hungry plug-ins. In a time where most musicians work with computers with more than 4 GB, I see this decision of Ableton as right. So the developers can focus on one version and not on several.

Live 32-bit to be discontinued
Due to persistent out-of-memory crashes during use, Ableton will discontinue the 32-bit version of Live for new updates of the software from late 2017.
The 32-bit version of Live (like all 32-bit applications) can use a maximum of 4GB of RAM only, which can quickly be exceeded when using large multisamples or memory-hungry plug-ins, resulting in crashes.
In contrast, the 64-bit version of Live can use a theoretical maximum of 16 exabytes of RAM – much more RAM than computers actually have. This means you can work with Live Sets that are much larger and more memory-intensive than in the 32-bit version.
We recommend installing the 64-bit version of Live to avail of future updates. It is also possible to install two instances of Live on your computer in case you still need to continue using 32-bit Live. The final version of 32-bit Live will remain permanently available to download in your User Account.
