Much has been discussed about the continuation of Blade Runner in recent months. First trailers already showed the first scenes and already contain the legendary sound of Vangelis. Since we are already at the music. Many musicians will deal with the topic until the film starts, how well and authentic the soundtrack will be. It’s very hard to compose a new soundtrack where the previous one has Vangelis composed. On top, the initial soundtrack becomes a legend.

At first wasJ óhann Jóhannsson composer, who has written interesting compositions to my mind so far. In July came surprisingly a statement that Hans Zimmer and Benjamin Wallfisch will help the actual Composer. This week came a further interesting news that Jóhann Jóhannsson has left the production and that Hans Zimmer and Benjam Wallfisch will take over the whole thing. Here is the statement:

“Academy Award Nominee and Golden Globe winner Jóhann Jóhannsson is no longer attached to the film Blade Runner 2049…Jóhann’s agent has confirmed that the Icelandic composer is no longer involved with the film in any capacity, though he is prohibited from saying anything at this point due to his contract.”

It will now be exciting how the two composer will realize the soundtrack. There is no more information on why Jóhann Jóhannsson left the team. Or you can speculate that the actual composer has not reached the sound spectrum of Vangelis and left the film for it. There is a lot of room for speculation, but accurate informations are currently not available. We will see in October the result of both composers.

In the meantime, here the End Title of the first Blade Runner movie composed by Vangelis
