I released a new video where I share my first impressions of the new Roland Jupiter 8 Plugin yesterday. In my eyes, this new Jupiter 8 emulation is great because the sound is authentic and the quality comes near the original one. Due of this high-quality, the workload of the CPU is high and you need a fast system to work well with 8 voices.
I have two main negative points. The subscription model and the GUI. First, the plugin is on available through the Roland Cloud, a new subscription model from Roland where users must buy up to 20$ per month for using their plug-outs. (1 month free) That’s a lot and so you pay a least 240$ for using this plugins in a year. Okay, they promise to release every month new content for it but in my eyes it’s to high. Example: If you subscribe for six years, you have pay more than 1000$ for software Synthesizers which you don’t own but only loan. So if you stop the payment, you have payed more than 1000$ and you can’t use them anymore. My point: for this price, you can also buy other great software Synthesizers like Omnisphere 2 or other hardware Synths. Sorry Roland but this price model is not great. Maybe for you, it’s lucrative but not for musicians.
Further, the GUI is a imposition for 2017. Why? Easy, if you increase the size of the GUI, it becomes messy and unreadable. For this price, I want to see a good designed GUI with a perfect possibility to increase the GUI size without losing the graphic quality of it. For 240$ per year, I can expect a graphical user interface with quality.
First Impression in summary:
+ Sound Quality
+ Authentic
– GUI design
– Price model
