SampleScience SQ8ROM is a free sample-based virtual instrument for PC & Mac that features 50 sounds of the SQ8L, a software emulation of the Ensoniq SQ-80.

SampleScience is back with a new sample-based plugin. The developers have today released SQ8ROM, a free virtual instrument plugin for PC & Mac. Something unusual here is that they did not sample the Ensoniq SQ-80 but the software emulation SQ8L developed by Siegfried Kullmann.

168 sounds are in total available and built-in an easy-to-use interface.

On the interface side, it includes a reverb, an ADSR (attack, decay, sustain, release) envelope, gain, and an LFO with depth and rate controls. SQ8ROM is a must-have if you produce synth-wave, synth-pop, vaporwave, and any other 80s influenced genres. Best of all, SQ8ROM will be forever free!

SQ8ROM Features

  • 168 sounds
  • Amplitude ADSR
  • Reverb
  • Multi-LFO
  • Can be used as an MSE file reader

SampleScience SQ8ROM is available free of charge (forever) and requires 1GB of HD space & 3.5 GB with the expansions. It’s compatible with PC & Mac ( VST (32 & 64-bit), VST3 (64-bit) and AU) plugin formats. Don’t forget to check out the other amazing 64-bit compatible free plugins (synthesizer, effects,…) for PC & Mac.
