Westwood Upright Felt Piano is a free warm-sounding Kontakt Piano library with an easy-to-use interface

Native Instruments Kontakt is one of the best sampler plugins on the market, especially because of the large number of third-party libraries. There are also many very good free instruments available. One of these is the new piano library by Westwood.

It features high-quality piano samples recorded at 96kHz through Neve 1973 pre-amps and Burr Bown AD converters.

According to the developer, the signal started with a matched pair of Coles 4038’s as close as we dare put them to the hammers, to capture a really detailed sound. A stereo pair of AKG 414’s made an excellent job of capturing a more open room sound. We also used a single SE-2  close to the rear soundboard. This mic position provides a really boxy vintage sound.

The interface includes also a lot of possibilities to tune the perfect sound including a noise section (keys, pedal), sound (saturation, stereo width, reverb), EQ and a microphone mixer.

Westwood Upright Felt Piano is available now for download for Kontakt 5.6.6 or higher. The library is only compatible with the full version of Kontakt.
