System80 810 & 820 brings back the sound character of legendary Roland Synthesizers on the market as Eurorack modules.

System80 has come into focus in the past with its 808 inspired 880 for the Eurorack format. Now the young company releases new Eurorack modules that are also based on vintage Roland circuits. The 810 is a 30HP Eurorack voice module that features a VCO, VCF, and VCA in one module. The 820 is a 10HP oscillator with four different waveforms including sync and PWM options.

According to the developer, they don’t want to make a copy/clone of these vintage Roland synths but want to bring the well-known vintage sound/character in Eurorack format in a new design. Interesting here is: these are open-source so you can even build them if you like.

810 Synth Voice Features

VCO

  • Discrete Voltage Controlled Oscillator with temperature compensated exponential converter
  • 1 V/octave tracking over 8+ octaves
  • Sync input with weak and strong oscillator sync modes
  • 1 V/octave CV input + two attenuated exponential CV inputs for pitch/frequency modulation
  • Five position octave range switch
  • Selectable waveform output: Pulse, Ramp, Triangle, or Sine
  • Pulse Width Modulation CV input

VCF

  • Cascaded OTA design inspired by classic Roland topologies with selectable 12 or 24 dB response
  • self-oscillating with 1 V/octave tracking (3-4 octaves, normalized to VCO KYBD CV input)
  • VCO output and sub-oscillator normalized to two log attenuated inputs
  • Two frequency CV inputs, one unipolar and one bipolar
  • Voltage controlled resonance

VCA

  • Traditional single OTA design
  • Three log attenuated audio inputs with IN 1 normalized to VCF output
  • Two CV inputs with selectable exponential or linear response

820 Oscillator Features

  • Discrete Voltage Controlled Oscillator with temperature compensated exponential converter
  • 1 V/octave tracking over 8+ octaves
  • Sync input with weak and strong oscillator sync modes
  • 1 V/octave CV input + one attenuated exponential CV inputs for pitch/frequency modulation
  • Five position octave range switch
  • Waveform outputs: Pulse, Ramp, Triangle, and Sine
