Conclusion

For which musician is the KORG monologue the right Synthesizer. In my opinion, it’s an very interesting Synthesizer that fits well to any synth newcomers (first synth purchase) but also to everyone who is more experienced. Above all, the crazy motion sequencer as well as the more complex waveforms invite even experienced musicians to play with it. The unique sound character of the monologue that can’t be found in any other synth is one of the big positive points. Also the new designed filter with it’s acid oriented character (TB-303 filter style à la KORG) enriches a lot the very unique sound.

Is it possible to compare the monologue with a classical analog synth? I think rather hard because the features as well as the sound character are very own and special. I would put it in the same area as the Minibrute or Microbrute of Arturia as these also have a very characterful unique sound which is difficult to reproduce but more easier to recognise.

The monologue would get from the best score if he did not have the limitations in the sequencer. I personally don’t like the 16 step limitation as well as that you can only play this in one direction (forward). Also it’s a bit a shame that KORG doesn’t include a power supply with the device but only simple batteries.

For the current price of 299$/€, the KORG monologue is a simple analog monophonic Synthesizer with a very own sound, a good build quality and many sound possibilities. On the whole, I can put this instrument at the heard of any musician who like analog synths and loves to experiment with sounds. I also recommend you to go in one of your favourite music shops near you and to test it because the sound is very own and not everyone will love it. Even thought he was initially portrayed as the little brother of the minilogue, the monologue is a completely independent instrument with a very unique sound character.
